"There will be some compensation"

http://www.lightstalkers.org/seeking-sexy-snow-photos-for-maxim

From the above link:

“Send me your submissions by tomorrow, Friday, October 31tst. If your image(s) are chosen there will be some compensation.”

What kind of an industry are you in when rather than asking you for the price of your product or service, your customers tell you that there will be “some compensation” if they choose you? Why don’t they just expect to pay market value for what they want, as they would when they’re buying a carton of milk, or a car, or when paying for a taxi?

She even hasn’t allowed answering for this. Can’t some moderator directly delete such postings? It’s obvious they’re just trying to get good images for a bargain.

Oh wait, she states she’s freelancing. This might translate into: I work for free. So why should photographers be compensated the right way, when I already gave away my work? Ha!

compensation is at least in positive territory, there’s more ‘give-us-free-photos postings’ round here.

And you must remember sometimes people’s use of the glorious English language (esp. online) is awkward, the poster is possibly indicating that there’s a budget but depends on what the get and what they’ll be using. Admittedly this is looking at this with the strongest pair of bifocal optimists glasses.

I’m with Con.

Even if she picks your photo, you don’t have to license it unless you like the price. This is a common business practice…submit your goods and we’ll see if we would like them enough to place an order. I’m sure Maxim won’t run the photos without your agreeing to the compensation and license terms.

Personally, I’m glad she has given the LS community the potential opportunity to sell some images as opposed to going to an agency, where you would pay a hefty percentage of your revenue for their service. The persons picked might consider that in their pricing.
