Tom Popyk is a freelance journalist based in Toronto, currently reporting from Afghanistan on an on going basis. .

He has spent over 14 months in Iraq since the beginning of US operations.

Over the past decade he has reported for CBS National Radio, CBC Radio and Television, CTV National News, Global Television, Corus Radio, ABC Radio, BBC Wales, Canadian Press, and People Magazine.

He has produced for ABC News, and for the Gemini award-winning 25th season of CTV’s investigative newsmagazine, W-Five.

“Sources picked up a threat against international journalists at Paghman/ PD 5, the refugee camp where Melissa Fung was kidnapped. Elders at the refugee camp are reportedly agitating about conditions there, and inviting journalists to come and see. This is reportedly being done in order to kidnap one or more of you.
