I don’t even own a camera. So much for photographic help. Timor is very photogenic.
The scenery is spectacular. Unspoilt for the most part. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

Dili is expensive as there are few cheap options but I am sure you could get a local to put you up.

Security is fine. the Level 4 at DFAT is a political ploy. But the situation can be very fluid. I do not go out at night. I am pretty old with grown children but I also don’t have a car and I am very careful. I ride a bike to work.

Bus travel would be easy. Outside of Dili life is very cheap. Most people have no and I mean zero money. There is very little perhaps no violence against people. The temptation to grab something valuable is huge. So be careful with your stuff. Even an mp3 player is very sought after.
