Advice sought on photojournalism education in Hong Kong

I’m a 23-year old Californian who’s considering moving to HK to pursue a career in photojournalism/documentary journalism. Realistically I would probably start out as an unpaid assistant while teaching English on the side. Eventually I would like to be freelancing , covering conflicts and social issues across Asia. I have considered moving to San Francisco, but the costs of living there are oppressively high and HK is a better base for someone who wants to cover Asia. I have some setbacks though- I don’t have a degree, financially I am on my own, and I don’t have any contacts in HK. Do you think this a pipe dream, or is this a feasible plan given that I have the talent, determination and interpersonal skills? This year alone I’ve shot in the States, Japan, Macau, HK, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia for my personal development.
