Traveling in Mexico
|
Hellow LS’ers,
I’m planning a trip to Mexico to do a reportage about the ‘Semana Santa’. But I want to stay a little bit longer than that one week and I want to travel a little bit around. I wonder if some people have some information about the best way to travel around in the country (bus, train or plain), some good places to sleep (Mexico City, ...). I already found some information and tips, but some more information would be usefull.
Thx in advance, greetz, Bernard

Basically trains doesnt exist anymore in Mexico so best way to travel are buses, but I dont know about planes. My favourite place in Mexico City is hotel Isabel, cheap, central and with safe for your gear inside the room ( www.hotel-isabel.com.mx), enjoy Mexico…..

Roberto is right, there are no more passenger trains in Mexico. Mode of travel depends on how far you’re going. If you’re in the usual Holy Week places (San Miguel, Oaxaca) and going to Mexico City bus is the cheapest, and from San Miguel the fastest. If you’re in the Yucatan or southern Chiapas I think flights are more practical, but pretty expensive.
When I’m in Mexico City I stay at the Hotel Mayaland (no web site). It’s pretty cheap, very clean and in a great location – midway between the Zocalo and Zona Rosa off a side street between the Colon Monument and Monument to the Revolution. Biggest drawback is that it doesn’t have internet.

Hi Roberto and Jack, thanks for those quick replys. I was already wondering why I didn’t find information about trains;), now I know. My time will be too limited to visit all intresting places in Mexico, so I have to choose. I would like to see a part of the country, so I think I’ll stay in the region of New Mexico two weeks, no longer, and mayby, if I find cheap flights, try to go to Yucatan for a week.
