Tutorial - How to make a 360 degree video panoramic

“This is a different kind of photography in that
it is interactive
it incorporates motion
and it is specific only to the web.”

Catch the tutorial on how to make these at MultimediaShooter.com:

Bob Croslin sent me a link on APAD’s discussion board
to this cool 360 video panoramic that MSNBC produced after Katrina:

http://risingfromruin.msnbc.com/tour.html?roadzoom13btn3

Their video is seamless because it isn’t stitched together.

An article they published on how they made this can be read here:

http://risingfromruin.msnbc.com/2005/11/you_write_the_c.html

Apparently the equipment they used had a cost of over $15,000.

I wonder if the cost has decreased since then.

The ‘poor man’ process I used is not nearly as proper but can be accomplished with less than $2000 of equipment and software

(at student discounted prices).

Another somewhat related link of interest is “Wild Sanctuary” which allows you to listen to various kinds of ambient noise on Google Maps or Google Earth.

Thanks

5/20/2008 UPDATE:

I figured out how to get the file size for these video panoramics
down to about 1/15 the file size that it originally took me last year.

These smaller files now allow these panoramics to load quicker and to run more reliably on older computers.

I have updated the file above and a color version with sound can be found here:

Moreover, Immersive Media, the company behind Google Maps Street View,
has developed a pretty nifty interactive 360 video panoramic system:
