Erm…Kevin Lamarque(?) Ron Haviv, George DeKeerle, Alan Tannenbaum, one of the Turnley twins, Anthony Suau,
Chris Morris, Alfred, Yannis Behrakis, Manoocher Deghati, Gary Knight.

Berlin, when the wall came down? 1989?

by Sion Touhig | 10 Dec 2006 16:12 | London, United Kingdom |
How strange, none of them appear to have cameras.

by Paul Treacy | 11 Dec 2006 00:12 | Manhattan, United States |
Alain Keler is there as well.

And none of them is smoking although there is one (functioning) lighter…

Was it a beer promotion picture?

by John Vink | 11 Dec 2006 01:12 | Phnom Penh, Cambodia |
This shot is so 80s, it hurts…

by Robert Go | 11 Dec 2006 02:12 | Colombo, Sri Lanka |
No cameras, but it looks like Gary Knight has a light meter in his shirt pocket…which of
course puts it back in the hard core film era.

Can’t believe some of you old-timers cannot identify the rather cute women, but I know
how serious you are about photography and avoiding distractions…..uh, right…

by Neal Jackson | 11 Dec 2006 02:12 | Washington, DC, United States |
The 80’s hurt less than the 00’s. At least there was some money around to produce storis.

But anyhow it’s early 90’s… And definitely not the Berlin Wall (it seems on the picture it wasn’t that cold). I’d say april 1992…

Neal: what is your taste? There are thee women…

by John Vink | 11 Dec 2006 03:12 | Phnom Penh, Cambodia |
If I were as wasted as Ron Haviv looks, I am sure any women would all have looked totally smashing to me that night!

But, seriously, even in my old age (or perhaps because of it), they all look like I’d enjoy spending some
time with them. And if they were with this crowd, they are sure to have been damn good photogs as well.

by Neal Jackson | 11 Dec 2006 03:12 (ed. Dec 12 2006) | Washington, DC, United States |
Hard to tell. Everyone in the photo has hair so it’s got to be old…

by James Colburn | 11 Dec 2006 04:12 | Omaha, Nebraska, United States |
Alexandra looking stunning of course.

by Kenneth Jarecke | 11 Dec 2006 08:12 | Montana, United States |
I would say celebrating the Oslo accords somewhere in J’lem (American Colony gardens? maybe not, it seems to be shot on high grounds overlooking a city) in 1992?
This seems to be sort of a ‘Middle-East’ gang, with Alfred, Patrick Baz, Alain Keler, Manoocher, Yannis and geez, Gary with dark hair (sorry mate, couldn’t help it!!
But this was wayyyyy before my time…
Nice one, Jérôme!

From the state of their clothes (and especially their boots) it looks like a bunch of construction workers celebrating the topping off party on a building site. The pic was taken so long ago that I bet half the people don’t recognize themselves (or don’t want to).

What’s the title of the picture? “We were fashion victims once, and young”/ “My hair gone away, I miss it so”/ “The gang bang club” or is this the cast of some long forgotten and awfully trashy US sitcom?

I’ll try and say Zagreb or Dubrovnik or Split.

by Jeff McIntyre | 11 Dec 2006 10:12 | Sydney, Australia |
Misleading title, by the way. The ‘Ultimate photo contest’ would be where you get to photograph beautiful women in a series of locations and the winners gets to take the models home. Judging by the dress sense of those above, it looks like most of them have been sleeping rough and cradling a bottle for years. No thanks.

by Jeff McIntyre | 11 Dec 2006 10:12 | Sydney, Australia |
can i be photoshopped out of this image please?

by Ron Haviv | 11 Dec 2006 15:12 | new york, United States |
No can a-do-Ron-Ron-Ron because then some blogger with erectile dysfunction would have proof that Jerome was manipulating images and he would be forced out of a job. Don’t sell it to the BBC either because the money you would get for it wouldn’t pay for a round of lollipops for the people in the picture, let alone a decent bottle of beer.

by Jeff McIntyre | 11 Dec 2006 15:12 (ed. Dec 11 2006) | Sydney, Australia |
Ron, wasn’t a similar thing done in a VII group shot??

by James Brickwood | 12 Dec 2006 00:12 | Sydney, Australia |
also, Menahem Kahana and brian hendler… and a bottle of Goldstar… it’s gotta be Jerusalem!

Jerome, is it you front and center?

by Guilad Kahn | 12 Dec 2006 05:12 | Ottawa, Canada |
See the fact of the matter with group shots like this? Somebody’s gotta blink when you press the shutter button. That’s Ron Haviv, I believe, blinking. One of several. Cheers!

by Max Pasion | 12 Dec 2006 05:12 |
Who is that ugly guy front row with the blue jeans and the black sweater with his hands clasped???

Looks very young…......

by Tom Sampson | 12 Dec 2006 09:12 | Dakar, Senegal |
“Ron, wasn’t a similar thing done in a VII group shot??” heh

by Daniel Etter | 12 Dec 2006 14:12 | Cologne, Germany |
That was before Ron experienced the horrors of war (oh! the horrors) and developed the thousand yard stare….

by Jeff McIntyre | 12 Dec 2006 14:12 | Sydney, Australia |
OK, Jérôme. The post slid off the front page. Time to call time. My post is all that has resurrected it.

Inquiring minds want to know. Where was it taken, and who are ALL of the people there, by name?

And what was the occasion? And who bought the beer? And how many did Ron drink?

by Neal Jackson | 13 Dec 2006 03:12 | Washington, DC, United States |
Salut Jerome, Comment va tu? This looks very much Paris, ...good old days

by Raffi Kirdi | 13 Dec 2006 03:12 | Montreal, Canada |
Looks like Pinkassov front and center on one knee but I’m not sure…

by Michael Eckels | 13 Dec 2006 09:12 | Moscow, Russia |
Jerome No Friends is currently in hiding after many of those in the photo offered to send him swimming with concrete boots for publishing an embarassing picture of people in the land that style forgot.

by Jeff McIntyre | 13 Dec 2006 10:12 | Sydney, Australia |
Rex Jobe’s the guy on the back row standing slightly above the crowd. At least it sure looks like him. He went on to be the CEO and head of The Image Bank.
He engineered Kodak’s buying TIB around 1991 when it was about to go under. ‘Interesting to see him with that group.

by John Robert Fulton Jr. | 13 Dec 2006 16:12 | Fort Worth, TX, United States |
ok so menahem, brian hendler Jerome delay(very young… it’s in Jerusalem for sure also alfred is there and also alain keller, nasser nasser I dont know wich events it was but you all look so young i believe it was at least few good years ago…..

by Terdjman Pierre | 27 Dec 2006 13:12 | Jerusalem, Israel |
This photo was taken at a party in the garden of Jerome Delay’s apartment in Jerusalem. If my Newsheimer’s Disease is not too advanced it may have been taken on or after September 13, 1993, which was when Arafat and Rabin shook hands at the White House. Or much after but definitely mid-90s. More photogs: between DeKeerle and Tannenbaum is Jacques Langevin of Sygma. I can’t remember the name of the girl with the bushy hair but she worked for AP. Next to David Turnley is Santi Lyon of AP. Behind him is Alexandra Avakian, and next to her is Rachel Cobb. Seated between Alfred and Alain Keler is Esais (Shaika) Baitel of Gamma. Behind Jerome looking to his right is Antoine Gyori of Sygma. On Antoine’s left is Nati from AP Tel Aviv. I was with Sygma at the time and those were the days my friends!!!

by Allan Tannenbaum | 31 Dec 2006 02:12 | New York, United States |
Hey, Allan, that is Jacqueline Larma (formerly Arzt) of AP. She married Rikard Larma, a former AP photographer in Sarajevo. As for your other comment, yes, those were indeed the days, right before things got really sour in our profession and it became so incredibly difficult to make a living as an independent photojurnalist.

by Roger Richards | 31 Dec 2006 17:12 | Norfolk, Virginia, United States |
hi allan,
just to help you with your memory- the photograph was taken after rabin’s death.

by Ron Haviv | 31 Dec 2006 18:12 | new york, United States |
It looks like a Village People lookalike convention but alas its real and I think this was taken around the time of Ariel Sharon’s funeral in Jeromes back garden. I barely recognise myself let alone anyone else but I think Ron is still wearing the same hat unless I am mistaken. What is Yannis doing to Jerome?

by [former member] | 01 Jan 2007 15:01 | Pelissanne, France |
Gary, my friend…
Ariel Sharon’s funeral, really???
You must have had a seriously LOOOOOONG and HAAAAAAAAARD New Year’s Eve!
Happy 2007 to everybody on that picture!!!
Bruno

by Eyal Warshavsky | 09 Jan 2007 11:01 | Jerusalem, Israel |
Jimmy Hoffa

by Jeff McIntyre | 09 Jan 2007 15:01 | Sydney, Australia |
Oh I don’t know any of them but the guy on the extreme left with the red beer bottle was really cute!
