underwater/surf photogs
Back to the subject of water housings. I’ve read all of Amy Vitale’s post. Compare SPL to Ikelight to Aquatech. I forsee shallow water photography, surf photgraphy, snorkleing and river rafting sort of stuff. Is the SPL better than the housings that go to depth (below 20 ft)for this sort of thing? I’m not really interested in scuba diving. What about putting a good point and shoot in Ewa bag for starting out? thanks

You can get away with a bit on a P&S, but it is a very frustrating way to work. I borrowed a Canon film camera. Make sure you keep those seals clean. Next time (will there ever be a next time?) I want to use something decent.

I use an ewa bag sometimes with a 1D or a 5D. It can be a bit clumsy, but for the price, I’d say it’s the best way to go. It can be pretty buoyant, though, so if you plan on being able to submerge easily maybe attach a weight or two.
