US data transfer

I am looking into express cards for nationwide wireless on a mac and wondering about what you all have to say. Speeds, plans, carriers, etc.
I have heard Verizon is the best since they have gov’t contract to restore wireless service in natural disaster scenarios, but AT&T now offers the service so I am curious if anyone has tried them nationwide. Thanks
