that’s interesting. Finally Canon regains some serious competition in the news departement.

The D3 opened my eyes.

But Canon basically moved their 40D 12meg camera into a Rebel camera and put an eight hundred dollar price tag on it last month.

So it will be interesting to see what Canon next offering as far as the 5D full frame. Either way the competition should be a good thing!

Also watch out for Sony who are reportedly making new sensors for Nikon.

Sony are also making worthy, though ugly, cameras. Apparently the sensors that Sony are making are designed and specked by Nikon. Sony are simply manufacturing them. Maybe Sony are learning from Nikon’s R&D.

I want to see what Canon’s next offering as far as full frame is…...and then decide. There are all kinds of rumours about a 5D Mark II with 16 megapixels, full frame, self-clean, semi-weather proof and less noise at high ISO. all for $3,000 or so. Thats a lot of camera, but then the lenses become more of an issue.

Either way, my eyes are certainly open to what Nikon is doing.

I kept all my Nikon lens when I made the switch to canon so i have problem switching back. My dream is to never have to buy another SLR. I want a improved version of the DP1 that shoots faster, have higher ISO range, and faster lens.

i think most of us would agree that the whole canon-nikon debate basically comes down to what you are comfortable with, ie: what you’ve been using for the past XX years. the pro and semipro models from both manufacturers are great. apples and oranges etc.

what IS interesting is the business side of things, with nikon really pushing canon for the first time in the digital era, and (a complacent) canon taking a thumping. i was at the australian open in january, and shooters using the D3 were overjoyed, while those of us with the markIII struggled with the notorious servo focus. for the first time ever i was envious of the nikon shooters (nikon also were giving out better sunhats. oh the insult added to injury!).

hugo, i missed your post about AFP, but one of the their shooters told me that not only have they switched exclusively over to nikon, but that NIKON BOUGHT ALL OF AFP’S CANON GEAR to sweeten the deal!!!! yikes. that’s pretty aggressive marketing. canon better watch its ass. hopefully this will lead to better, cheaper gear for everyone down the road.

competition breeds innovation, and that can only be good for us.
