World Premiere Screening - God's Open Hand

GOD’S OPEN HAND is a feature length documentary produced by Ghost Studios, charting the course of fledgling democracy in Afghanistan.

The film’s focus is Afghanistan’s historic first presidential election as seen through the eyes of the Afghan people, as well as the major presidential candidates and western observers.

The film begins in the weeks leading up to election day as tensions mount from threats of Taliban and Al Qaeda attacks, rumors of backroom deals, American influence and voter intimidation from candidates and insurgents. Culminating in an election day riddled with problems, this film presents the viewer with an open and balanced look at Afghanistan’s troubled first attempt at democracy.

Yes this is my film. I hope everyone in the area can make it. LS afterparty to follow….?

by Spencer Mandell | 01 May 2006 15:05 | NYC, United States |
Spencer: looked at Ghost Studios website. Film sounds terrrific! :))) Did you enter the film into Hot Docs? Hot Docs is the EXTRAORDINARY documentary film festival that is held each April/May here in Toronto: frankly, its my favorite film festival (and Toronto is stuffed with film festivals: seems like every week/month)…I really would encourage you to enter your film, as HOT DOCS is one of the pre-emminent Documentary Film Festivals in the world! :)

If you’re interested on info about it, here is the web site for Hot Docs:

http://www.hotdocs.ca/

(im in no way associated with it, except as an admirer and regular buyer of tickets ;)) )
maybe you can enter the festival for next year. Would love to see an LS member have their film(s) screened here.

Congrats!
cheers,
bob

Spencer, do you have any plans for screenings here in DC? Both Sandra (my wife) and I would be very interested, especially Sandra who has worked on a lot of Afghan women’s issues.

by Neal Jackson | 01 May 2006 22:05 | Washington, DC, United States |
Congrats man….. wish I was there. Why don’t you have a Kabul viewing?

by Scott Eells | 01 May 2006 22:05 | New Delhi, India |
Spencer, Ray, congrats to the both of you. Having seen you guys busting your asses back in Kabul, i just know this film is going to be awesome. wish i could be there…

by Matt Shonfeld | 02 May 2006 03:05 | Krakow, Poland |
Spencer: :)))..you’re welcome. ABSOLUTELY, submit your film for Hot Docs. I am certain that it would be accepted and, frankly, Hot Docs provides filmmakers/documentarians an extraordinary amount of international exposure…as I said its one of the top Doc festivals in the world and the range of films it showcases is amazing. If you get your film in, i’ll bring a bottle of single-malt scotch for u to the screening next year: that’s a promise. And as the few LS members who I’ve met here in TO (Arantxa, Ali, donald weber) know, i keep my word when it comes to booze! :))…good luck Spencer!…bob

Let’s have a live screening sometime on LS… hmmmm, can we, huh, Shinji? (O:

The House and Senate have two hour webcasts all the time, so it must be possible. I-:

I won’t get to see Spencer’s film until it comes to IFC….my little town is 2 miles
away and has no movie theatres. )-;

by pat hattori | 02 May 2006 14:05 | mechelen, Belgium |
I thought the whole point is that people buy me drinks and snacks? What did I make this movie for then? Damn.

by Spencer Mandell | 02 May 2006 15:05 | NYC, United States |
Just like at the mustapha. never paying for drinks.

by pat hattori | 02 May 2006 15:05 | mechelen, Belgium |
just kidding, spencer is very generous. don’t want you folk to get the wrong idea.

by pat hattori | 02 May 2006 15:05 | mechelen, Belgium |
All this love from the Belgian contingent is amazing. Vive La Belgique!

by Spencer Mandell | 02 May 2006 16:05 | NYC, United States |
So, you’re a royalist now, huh.

by pat hattori | 02 May 2006 17:05 | mechelen, Belgium |
Hey Spenc, will look out for a dodgy, wobbly, handy cam, shot in the cinema version of your movie in Johor Bahru over the next couple of weeks. it will be almost as good as being at the screening in NYC. except i won’t be getting the free drinks and snacks……

by Charles Pertwee | 03 May 2006 00:05 | singapore, Singapore |
I encourage piracy of this film. Bring cameras.
