young photographer in Nairobi

Lameck, a young photographer and former student (+ a good friend of mine) really wants to learn all there is about photography. Who wants to take him (short-term or long-term) along and teach him what you know? Or maybe you need his help while working in Nairobi?

You can see his recent BBC blog on:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/shared/spl/hi/picture_gallery/08/africa_kenya_through_the_lens/html/1.stm

Times are rough now in Nairobi and I want to keep Lameck’s dream to become a photographer going. Especially in these times he needs some encouragement!

I’d be willing to teach him what I know. I am still a junior at university but I’m in one of the best photojournalism programs in the states and I have enough experience (taken two trips internationally for documentary work, work as a stringer locally) that I feel comfortable teaching him the basics and mid level stuff. The advanced stuff will require someone closer to home but I am game if he is able to get internet access for email, skype, image upload for critique and comment.

not a problem, I have been given so much in my 23 years on this earth that anytime I can do something to help I try my best to make use of that opportunity. Tell him to contact me at riaz.mesbah@gmail.com, or AIM: rizzaisatomic

Lameck came up in a conversation I had with Peter Vlam of www.africanews.com some few weeks ago. I was willing to donate my last survival nikon lens to him after Peter told me about how much effort Lameck is putting into his work. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have an slr so I had to sell the lens. I have promised to get him some books; mostly pdfs but they are so huge. If you can get him to send me a postal address, I will put them on a CD or DVD and get them to him.

Thanx Nana!
Yes, Peter Vlam is also a friend of mine, and he believes strongly in Lameck too :-))) You can send the cd or dvd to Nairobits in Nairobi, where Lameck has been trained as a webdesigner last year. It is the best place to get it to him safely:

Nairobits
attn. Lameck Nyagudi
p.o. box 2778-00200
Nairobi / Kenya

Lameck is photographing digitally with a simple camera, because he cannot afford to buy film for an analog slr. And at Nairobits he can use the computer and PS! But many thanks for thinking about him regarding your lens!

all my best for now
