I have made some postings before in lightstalkers and received very valuable feedbacks from the members.
Anyway, I will introduce myself again. My name is Yudhi Hartono and I am a fourth year Industrial design student in University of New South Wales. Currently I am working on my final project where I have to propose a fully resolved product for a market of my choice. At the end of the project, I have to have a product concept that is ready for production. I decided to do a project on protective equipments for journalists who work in conflict/remote areas.

I was initially working on protective equipments such as helmet, vest etc. However as a lot of you have pointed out, developing a bullet resistant equipments such as vest, helmet etc will get really difficult. The contractors have spent million dollars in developing those equipment. A lot of other journalists that I talked to also said that it’s hard to come up with a more innovative protective equipment than what is already available. And also there is the issue with the product testing to make sure my design will work. I do not think I will have any access to shoot a gun to my prototype. My supervisor has directed me to pull back a bit and instead of focusing on bullet proof vests etc, maybe I should start considering the other area of Journalist’s life such as; health (preventing from disease, how they store food etc) and their equipment (how it’s handled or protected).
