Zeiss ZF lenses
|
Hello,
Just wondering if anyone had any experience with the Zeiss ZF lenses. How do they compare to Nikon’s? Are they sharper? More “three dimensional”? What are they like to work with? (I’m specifically interested in the comparison between the two 85 1.4 lenses.)
Also, does anyone know of a rental house in NY that stocks them? I’ve tried the usual suspects (Adorama, etc) and none of them carry the lenses.
Thanks! Scout

Hi Scout,
I’ve owned the 35 f/2 len’s for about 4 month’s and love it. I cant compare it to a Nikon 35 prime because I’ve never owned one but I can compare it to the Nikkor 20-35 f/2.8 AFD lens zoomed to 35 and even though a different focal length the Nikkor 50 1.4. I’ve been using it on a D200 as my main portrait lens and clearly noticed instantly it is much sharper. I did a side by side under ideal conditions with strobe at f/11, imported them into Aperture and zoomed to 100% and was floored. I’ve used it a little at 2, 2.8 and 4 and there is a pleasing transition between whats in and out of focus. The focus’ed on elements are tack sharp with a seemingly good edge sharpness on the periphery of the image. The 35 nikkor might be just as good but I wouldnt know. Due to the lack of a split level prism in the D200 critical focusing at 2.8 can be a little tricky.
As long as you dont mind maual focusing I’m sure you’ll be happy. It’s also built like a tank…
