Zoriah: Iraq War Diary gets him kicked out of Iraq

Just read this….really disappointing, to say the least. Zoriah was doing important work.

that is too too bad…his work was powerful, intense, real, as were the words and his diary…..

that’s just too bad for all of us, concerning is dis=embedding…

sad sad sad… but what to expect? when someone finally had the guts and powers to show the rest of the world the real deal of what is happening, they are getting expelled by a micromanaging military authority that doesnt want the world to see what they do for a “living”.

agree with all of you. zoriah`s work was strong stuff. obviously too strong for some…

i almost got thrown out of one unit for similar pics. I didn’t have any of dead or wounded US grunts though. Ironically it was pics of dead Muj Cong that almost got me booted. Thankfully a wise PAO and BCT commander came to my defense.

I must say Bill, I really admire you guys for having the guts to go there and bring the info out, and, for challenging the authorities in which you are embedded under.

I think alot more photogs in situations like Zoriah would like to bring out photos like that, or may even have them. but, no one will publish it, or they face expelling or so… the pictures are too real… am I right?

Thank you all for your support and kind comments. Yes, I do believe that many other photographers are sitting on amazing images from this war. Possibly afraid of getting banned from an embed or blacklisted completely and forced out of the work they survive on, it is a bad situation to be put in. I am happy to stand firm on this issue and allow myself to get kicked out in hopes that this may allow another photographer to keep their camera out in a bad situation and get those images to the public’s eyes…where they belong.

I am currently awaiting a decision from Petraeus (I hear) to find out if I am going to be blacklisted completely.

Says a lot about you, Zoriah (respect!) and the government…

Thanks so much to all of you for the support. I will be posting soon about the situation here, just waiting for a few things to get worked out. I guess I should go back into that post from a few months ago about censorship in embeds and change my official comment on the subject!

I have a million other projects lined up all around the world, I never planned on spending even this much time embedded, so there will not be any problems. I have projects in Afghanistan, Burma, Palestine, Eastern and Western Europe, Scandinavia and the States set up during the coming five months.
I will however continue to fight this and stand up for the rights of myself, everyone who is still trying to work here and those of you who may want to come here at some other point. We can not tolerate people telling us what to shoot…we owe the public to stand up for such things!
