So here’s the deal. I have a photo blog, sort of, it’s basically just a html page I update. I want it to grow up and be a real blog meaning:
1) It has commenting
2) I can host it on my own server and track it with analytics
3) I can customize enough to look a little bit like what I have now at ckpj.com/blog
So I thought that Wordpress was my best option. I downloaded and read up on it. My site is hosted through Go Daddy, so I went on there are found the place where I add MySQL databases, and I added one (it gives you an option to “Allow Direct Database Access,” the default is “No” so I left it there. I added all the appropriate information into the right fields of the right php file, and uploaded the whole file to a sub-directory using my ftp client. Nothing happened.
So, I did something wrong. I think that I have to give the user of the MySQL database (which I created when I created the database at GoDaddy) “Global Permissions” I tried and tried to figure out how to do this, but couldn’t. It looks like there is some type of command that you can type into the MySQL prompt box, but it kept telling me “access denied” and giving me errors.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have removed the wordpress files from my servers and I’ve deleted the MySQL database at GoDaddy. So I’m basically ready to start from scratch.
I’m also interested in learning how to modify the look of the wordpress to match my html design and learn how to add the google analytics code, but I mostly want to get the thing working.
I was pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. Please help….
