London Exhibition

Building a Dream photo exhibition explores the lives of those who ‘build the dream’ for the rich and famous in the world’s hottest property spot – Dubai.

A diverse collection of photographs documenting the daily grind, the dangers and the more personal side of living and working on one of the world’s largest building sites. Foreign construction workers, mainly from South Asia, are paid US$300 a month, work 6 days a week, and play cricket.

High resolution photos are available on request. For a preview, see http://www.ripserve.com/perkins/buildingadream/

A reception for the Building the Dream exhibit will be held at Putney Arts Theatre on 24 April, from 7.30 to 9.30pm.

About the photographer: This is John Perkins’ third solo exhibition, having already had work shown at the Spitz Gallery, the Association of Photographers, Shrinking Cities in Leipzig and the Tom Blau Gallery. Perkins has also won various awards both in the UK and in the US. This set of pictures recently won an NPPA (National Press Photographers Association) award in the USA, but has never been published in the UK.

The public is welcome to view the exhibit from 25 April- 29 April. Please check with the box office for opening times on 020 8788 6943. Admission is free. The launch event is on 24 April from 7.30 to 9.30.

The Putney Arts Theatre is located at Ravenna Road, Putney, London SW15 6AW, telephone 020 8788 6943. The nearest tube station is East Putney on the District Line.

Be great if any London LS can make it. Free booze while stocks last!

John always up for an exhibition opening. BTW when did you have a show @ The spitz gallery? I had a show there in 2001 & was curious what your thoughts were on the venue.

Free booze eh? I’m booking my train ticket now! I take it the opening night on the 24th isn’t an invite only event. Or do we need to print this page out to get in?

Hi John, Its been a while. Good to see things are happening for you. Can’t make the show, but I’ll maybe find you again in Perpignan this year. Colin.

Yeah, just show up, I don’t reckon there’ll be a door policy as it’s not your average art venue. It will be nice to catch up with people.
